Maire has a degree in Social Science and a Master's in Education. She worked as a Social Worker for a number of years before returning to study in order to qualify as a teacher. As a Social Worker, Maire has vast experience of working with a wide array of difficulties affecting people; including depression, child abuse, effects of alcoholism etc.

As a teacher, Maire became involved with the 'Child Abuse Prevention Programme' which involved informing teachers and boards of management on how to recognise the symptoms of bullying and child abuse and on how to deal with this worrying issue.
She has also delivered courses to teachers on: Self Esteem; Conflict Resolution; Stress Management; and on the 'Stay Safe' programme.
Maire was diagnosed with M.S. in 1998 and following diagnosis, she started her search to discover ways of managing this serious condition. This led her to the discovery of the positive power of hypnosis. Following a decision to leave a highly stressful but very enjoyable, rewarding job, Maire studied to become a Hypnotherapist with a highly respected body as she knew that use of Hypnosis is invaluable in dealing with M.S.
Maire is now a supervisor with the ICHP and also received a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Maire has a special interest in working with people diagnosed with M.S. as well as working with children especially those who are obese or who are suffering the effects of ‘bullying’ having trained with the ‘Child Abuse Prevention Programme. She also has experience in working with teachers who are stressed and need support. Maire is also on the Disability Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
